How to Keep Food Fresh Naturally

Never store apples with any other vegetables or fruits. Apples emit certain gases which make the other good items rot. Similarly, never store tomatoes and cucumber in the same compartment as even tomatoes omit gases which can make the cucumber rot.

Store cheese with a few cubes of sugar in an air tight container as the cubes absorb the moisture from the cheese and help it stay fresh for a longer period of time.

Always store eggs with the pointed side downward to keep them fresh longer

Keep a potato in your refrigerator. The potato absorbs bad smells from cooked food or even otherwise and also absorbs gases in the fridge, thus helping other things stay fresher. But you must change the potato every few days. You can also use used lemon in the same way


Always store radish in a vessel with water to keep them crisp.

Uses of Lemon Juice


Lemon Juice mixed with warm water helps relieve digestion problems like constipation, bloating,nausea, belching and heartburn. Take it regularly to improve your bowel movements.

If you've tried everything to stop hiccups and nothing has worked have some lemon juice for quick relief.

Since citric fruits work as natural antiseptics, it is useful in solving skin problems. Having lemon juice every day works as an anti-aging remedy and removes wrinkles and blackheads.

Lemon juice if applied on burns can fade the scars.

Banana Halwa


Ingredients:

6 ripe bananas
1 cup ghee
1 cup sugar
1 tsp cardamom powder

Method:


Peel the bananas and slice into 1 inch rounds.

Heat the ghee and add the bananas. Saute till bananas are a little soft (some pieces may get mashed a bit).

Add sugar and enough water to cover the banana mixture.

Cook over low heat till the liquid thickens when you lift it and drop, it should fall in drops and not a stream.

Add the cardamom powder, cool, chill and serve. This will thicken as it cools.

Date Delight


Ingredients :

  • 150 gram dates chopped
  • 250 ml boiling water
  • 1/4 tsp soda bicarbonate
  • 60 gm butter
  • 200 gm sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla
  • 225 gm all purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • A pinch of Salt
  • 50 gm nuts
Method :
  • Pour boiling water on the chopped dates & add soda bicarbonate.
  • Beat butter & sugar together, add egg & vanilla & beat well.
  • Sift the flour, baking powder & salt & fold alternately with the date mixture into the creamed butter, sugar & egg.
  • Add the chopped nuts & stir well.
  • Pour the batter into a pie dish & bake in a pre-heated oven for 30-40 minutes at 180 degree C.
  • Remove & let it cool completely before making slices.

Chicken Biriyani


Ingredients :

  • 2 cups Basmati Rice
  • 3/4 kg Chicken Pieces
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 1 cup Yogurt (curd)
  • 3 sliced onion
  • 1 tsp Ginger Paste
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Paste
  • 1 tsp Green Chilli Paste
  • 1/2 cup Tomato Puree
  • 2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Roasted cumin powder
  • 2 tsp Garam Masala Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Green Cardamom Powder
  • Saffron a pinch
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 2 tbsp Green Coriander Leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 7 tbsp Oil

Method:

  • Mix tomato puree, yogurt, ginger garlic paste, green chilli paste, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, roasted cumin powder, garam masala, coriander powder and salt. Stir well.
  • Marinate the chicken with this mixture and keep aside for 3-4 hours.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Fry the onions until golden brown.
  • Add the marinated chicken and cook for 10 minutes.
  • Add 4 cups of water to the rice. Mix saffron in milk and add to it.
  • Add cardamom powder. Add the chicken pieces.
  • Pressure cook the rice. Mix gently.
  • Garnish with green coriander leaves and serve hot.
